On October 5, 2015 the The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to William C. Campbell, Satoshi Ōmura and Youyou Tu. While Tu was recognized for discoveries concerning a novel therapy against malaria, Campbell’s and Ōmura’s recognition stemmed from their development of a therapy to treat neglected tropical diseases.
