The Neglected Tropical Diseases Support Center (NTD-SC) is very pleased to announce the addition of two important new team members: Dr. Maria Rebollo Polo as Program Director, and Mr. Andrew Majewski as Operations Manager. Both have extensive NTD and other technical experience and will contribute greatly to expanding the capacity and expertise as they join the NTD-SC at the Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta.
Dr. Maria Rebollo is a physician and public health specialist with more than a decade of experience in NTDs, project management and international public health throughout Africa, Asia, and the Americas. In her most recent role as the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) lead at the Centre for NTDs at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Maria worked directly with 15 countries and dozens of partners to map disease, measure program impact and strengthen national M&E processes. As founder and president of ZYL (www.zyl.org), Maria also oversees multiple projects focused on comprehensive rural development activities in Cameroon as that country works to achieve the global millennium development goals, including those targeting the NTDs.
Maria is a member of several scientific societies including the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine where she serves on the Executive Board as the operational research lead. She has also been nominated as member of the Technical Consultative Committee of the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC).
As Program Director of the NTD-SC, Maria will direct the strategic planning, development and implementation of the complex, multi-institutional operational research (OR) program coordinated by the NTD-SC with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and collaboration support from key partner organizations including Ministries of Health, the World Health Organization, principal bilateral donors (USAID and DfID), pharmaceutical partners, and other organizations involved with NTD control and elimination.
Mr. Andrew Majewski brings to the NTD-SC more than a decade of international clinical operations and pharmaceutical management experience throughout Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. In his most recent role as Scientific Program Manager for the BMGF-supported ‘Death to Oncho and LF (DOLF)’ project at Washington University in St. Louis, Andrew actively managed the global operations of 11 clinical studies to eliminate NTDs. He has extensive experience in all aspects of project planning, site initiations, health care personnel training, logistic support, protocol preparation, data management, and donor reporting.
As Operations Manager of the NTD-SC, Andrew will not only provide detailed project management support of logistical and operational details for each project within the NTD-SC portfolio but also will take on the challenge of detailed tracking of project progress to provide an open and readily accessible window on all of the projects undertaken by the NTD-SC and to report this progress to the Center’s donors.
Please join us in welcoming both Maria Rebollo and Andrew Majewski to our team at the Task Force for Global Health!
